The Nokia Lumia 1020 has some impressive specifications. And my phone contract was up for renewal. And I was using a fairly old phone having lost the Samsung I'd had for just over a year. So I thought what the hell, I'll get a new handset on discount. Because of the camera I was of course tempted by the Nokia, even if it is a windows phone, and bright yellow. I really wasn't sure how it would hold up as a phone though, after all, it's not just a camera, and I have a few of those already, it's meant to be the computer in my pocket. So after torturing my wife for a long time with my indecisiveness in the shop (she chose a new handset in about 10 minutes) I went for the Nokia. Because of the camera, I have to admit. And it's decent quality. Very decent in fact, and made more so by the announcement that come early 2014 an update will mean I'll be able to get DNG raw files from it. Now there's something. So I'm impressed. Of course it's autofocus is cameraphone slow, but the manual focus option works well and is a nice touch, as are all the manual controls (shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation). More importantly, I'm enjoying using the camera function on this device, and despite a couple of minor irritations with the Windows Phone operating system (three apps I normally use almost daily - google maps, google drive and dropbox - aren't available except through 3rd party client apps) I'm currently finding I prefer the Windows OS over Android and iOS. And you know what, after a couple of weeks with it, I even like the colour.
Anyway, here's some pics. You'll find me uploading stuff to Instagram also.
