This is Saturn. Shot with my longest lens (a 400mm) with a 1.4x teleconverter and the 1.6x crop factor of my Nikon D7000, giving it an effective focal length of almost 900mm. And it's cropped like you wouldn't believe - you can see the pixels.... but, you can also see the rings, and for me, that is what this is all about. Imagine how Galileo Galilei, Christiaan Huygens and Giovanni Domenico Cassini felt observing something probably looking a little like this during the 17th century.
I think I need one of these, or one of these... Maybe one day I'll do a photographic series on space exploration. Might give me an excuse to go to the Atacama Desert, or at least to get a badass telescope, (you know, for the kids...)
